I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and taking the time to rest after all the fun!
I wanted to share a tip with you on my favorite way to start the new year.
Starting the year off with a fresh, clean home. I’m talking about DEEP scrubbing and making your home sparkle!
I know, not fun! It may require some planning or having time and energy that you may not have.
Maybe this is something that you hire out to keep your sanity and save your mental health. Think of it as opportunity cost - the amount of time and energy you save cleaning your house when you could be focused on working or spending time with your family might be worth it, especially as us busy mamas.
But starting out the year with a nice, clean home is something that helps me SO much starting the year off on the right foot!
Here is a break down to help you simplify your process if you are going the DIY route:
- Take down Christmas a few days before the new year and find a home for all the new presents and get rid of all the clutter.
- Start a donation pile. If you feel the urge to declutter for the new year, then my advice is to do one closet or even corner at a time. Don’t try to take on too much at once. Create a designated “donation” space either in a closet or in your garage to continuously add to it. Every few weeks take a load to the donation center.
- If you aren’t a “go all in” person like me who just needs to blitz through in one day, then I suggest breaking rooms up into several days. Schedule out 1-2 hours a day to really get scrubbing. Get the window sills, the baseboards, the fridge, the windows, walls, cabinets, wash the curtains, etc… the nitty gritty. The steam cleaners work wonders. I have this one
- Recruit your older kids to help, and incentivize them to a treat. I realize this may not work LOL. I only have young kids, so I haven't experienced the "helpfulness" of the older kids yet.
- Treat yourself to help motivate yourself to get the hard work done!
I hope this is helpful & motivating to you and that it positively impacts your mental health like it does mine.
Happy New Year!
