Being an entrepreneur really is a journey of laying brick by brick of business building. I am also finding that it is paving the way of personal development and self discovery.
Five years ago, I decided I was going to start walking down the road of being an entrepreneur, I still feel like I am at the starting point in several ways, but when I look back, I see so much growth in myself as a person and in my business. Five years ago, I didn’t even have my real estate license. Now I am three years in and laying the foundation of launching my planner business!
Looking back, there were several times that I didn’t know what my next step was, what I was doing or even the direction I was headed. In these moments I leaned on prayer, journaling and listening to podcasts to help teach me something that sparked some inspiration or direction to move forward. I think that has been the most exhilarating part of it all - the inspiration that comes, acting on it and then seeing the fruits.
I remember one year ago, I was inspired to make a planner for me to use while trying to juggle the demands of being a mom, wife & real estate agent. Then it dawned on me that I probably wasn't the only one who needed this, and thus started the journey which is now the Mompreneur Paper Co.
But don’t be fooled. In the last year, I hit A LOT of dead ends. The biggest one was how I was going to get it published to my liking and standards and still make a profit. This took a lot of research, trial and error and divine intervention for sure. Just when I thought professional publishing wasn’t in the cards, I ran into an amazing podcast that taught all about Professionally publishing planners!! I was floored. The timing was unbelievable. When Polly mentioned in her podcast she had a program designed to walk us through publishing and teach us how to launch, I didn’t even hesitate. Which is rare for me because I am a FRUGAL person, but I knew that THIS was God opening the door when I thought they were all closed.
That is one of MANY examples and lessons I learned over the last several years of what simply taking the next step looks like even when I am not even sure which direction I am headed.
How does this apply to you?
Well… You may be thinking that you are soo fed up with the market in real estate right now. You may be ready to throw in the towel and go back to your corporate job. You may be wondering how you are going to even get your next client….
I am here to tell you, I understand, I am in the trenches with you right now. But you have to keep taking the next step. Even if it's a baby step of working on your mindset and creating a list of gratitude of the day, exercising or listening to your favorite real estate podcast. My personal favorite is The Hustle Humbly Podcast – they always lift my spirit and get me excited to get back to work. It might not lead you to your client tomorrow, but even the smallest steps can make a big impact and help you down the path of success.
“Don’t wait for doors of opportunity to open, go make your own success and create your own opportunities.”
I love a good quote. My planner for moms in real estate is full of them because they help me keep perspective and motivation. I don’t even remember where I heard the quote, but it's a good one and someone really wise probably said it.
But I want you to keep this quote in mind. YOU go make those opportunities available to you. No one is going to come to you and just hand you an opportunity. Maybe they will, but then you probably won’t be reading this blog post. So, to the readers that are here, go talk to your sphere and database, go serve and help them. Go find your next opportunity and keep laying the bricks on your personal road of entrepreneurship!
You’ve got this mama!
